Why use worm castings?
Improving soil condition is more important than providing fertilizers for healthy and robust plant growth. We need to feed the soil instead of the plants.
This is done by creating a living, active soil full of beneficial bacteria, fungi (such as Mycorrhiza and Trichoderma), minerals, and trace elements. These components are present in worm castings. The more soil life that develops around the roots of plants, the more nutrients become available to the plants.
By using worm castings (also called "vermicompost"), other fertilizers become unnecessary. Active soil life is also stimulated by using lava rock dust and mycorrhizal fungi. These can all be combined with using worm castings.
Three in one product
- Supply of organic matter
- Highly absorbable nutrients
- Complete soil biology
Works well in combination with lava meal and mycorrhizal fungi.
Where and how much vermicompost to use?
- Worm castings to improve your soil
For maintenance treatment: annually spread a layer of 2 cm or 20 l per m2 over your vegetable garden, among your ornamental plants, and over your lawn.
- When planting
Make a planting hole large enough (2 x root ball). Create a mixture of 2 parts worm castings to 1 part excavated soil. First cover the bottom of the planting hole with this mixture and place the plant on it. Fill the hole further with this mixture, press the soil down well and water generously. Place a thick layer of 5cm around the trunk, with a diameter of 6 x the trunk's thickness. For planting vegetables and strawberries: 25l for 20 plants; for planting fruit trees: 25l for 2 trees; when planting an entire plot: spread a layer 3 to 5 cm thick.
- Laying or repairing lawn
For a new lawn: use 2 to 3 cm of worm castings as the top layer. For sod, mix the top 3 cm of soil with 3 l per m2 of worm castings.
- In Flower Pots and Vegetable Boxes
When providing new flower pots with potting soil, you can mix the worm castings with the potting soil. Use 1 liter of worm castings to 10 liters of potting soil. If the flower pots are already filled, then give a maintenance treatment with worm castings. Use 1 teaspoon every 14 days per flower pot.
For repairs, remove remaining grass, moss, and weeds on the bare spots and scoop away the top 3cm of soil. Fill this with worm castings and press down firmly. Then water sufficiently, seed, and keep moist.
How are our worm castings produced?
The breeding ground for the worms consists of green compost, leaf compost, biofibers instead of peat, and various ground grains. There is no use of paper pulp, GFT (garden and food waste) compost, or industrial organic waste streams.
Quantities
We offer three quantities:
- The 5L package (approximately 2.5 kg), we ship with PostNL.
- A 35L bag = 1 package. If you order multiple bags, you will receive several packages from us. Therefore, also think about the environment and pick up the bags if possible (by appointment).
- A 1000L big bag is shipped on a pallet. 1000 L corresponds to 1M3, which is enough to spread 2cm of soil over 50m2
